What is Unknown Abyss?
Unknown Abyss is an MMORPG in development by a group of volunteers (for the time being) that plan to revolutionize the MMORPG market with groundbreaking concepts. Some of these concepts include the idea that players affect the storyline and updates 100% thru just about everything they do, a very complex and adaptable combat system, completely free character development with no limitations, true exploration, and other concepts that we will reveal later on.
When did this project start?
This project “started” sometime during May/June of 2005. This is when things really started going, and it was more then just an idea.
Who is the team composed of?
The team is composed of a group of people that are willing to give up their free time to work on this project. Most of us are under 20 and even though we lack in age and freedom, we make up for it in dedication and skill. Few of us have real world experience with this sort of a work however, we have enough skill and knowledge to get us started, and to learn to keep it going.
What are your long term plans?
Our long term plan is to move in under one roof and truly dedicate more then just free time to this project. This must happen if we ever hope to take down the mountain of work ahead of us. Before that can happen though, we will further our knowledge of what we are trying to accomplish by launching a demo, doing more research, and finalizing our plans and concepts.

Why don't you provide us with your full plans for Unknown Abyss?
We have the entire game laid out in a document. However we will keep the details, and major ideas to ourselves until we feel we can release them to the public. The reason behind this, is that our game will be great only because of these ideas. If we release them early, others can easily copy them, and our ground breaking game won’t be so ground breaking. We will release enough information though to give you a general idea of what to expect.
What will PvP (Player versus Player) combat be like?
PvP will be a very complex system, but be very easy to utilize. There will be PvP only servers where anything goes, and then there will be regular servers where the complex system comes into play. In general, if you love PvP, you will love Unknown Abyss. However, if you hate PvP, you will also love Unknown Abyss. If you’re inbetween… you get the idea. Concepts like dueling, consensual PvP, arena PvP (areas where PvP is allowed regardless of the server), etc will all be present, including other types and forms of PvP.
What will normal combat be like?
Combat will be a very complex system that will satisfy you if you like hardcore adrenaline pumping action, or if you prefer more of a laid back “twitch” style of combat. Unlike other MMORPG’s, tactics will play a major role in both small and large scale battles.
Will there be exploration?
Yes. Most MMORPG’s concentrate on combat which is where Unknown Abyss will differ. One of the main concepts is that you will be able to level in many different ways that don’t include combat. Exploration will be one of those ways. Exploration will be exactly that in Unknown Abyss. You will search space for new ore fields, hunting grounds, gates, stations, etc. With out exploration, you wouldn’t find most of the good content in the game.
What will the economy be like?
The economy will not be static, but it won’t be 100% player driven either. It will be a mix of set prices, and prices that drop and rise depending on your actions. Outside that, you will be able to host your own auctions, build your own items, trade with NPC’s, etc.
How will I be able to further my character?
You will be able to further your character by doing just about anything. The idea is to accommodate all styles of play and keep them balanced in the speed at which you can develop your character. We will try our best to eliminate the “leveling grind” by giving you numerous ways of leveling so you’re never mindlessly doing the same task over and over.
What will the game look like?
The game will be on par with other games that are out today such as EvE, Star Wars Galaxies, and Everquest 2. On the technical side, we will introduce bump mapping, have higher poly count objects, higher resolution textures, and better lighting. The idea is to make a game that would bring today’s top-end system (that a normal person can afford) to its knees, so that when the game comes out, it will still look good, but with high customizable graphics settings even slower machines will be able to run the game.
